Well I still don’t understand the WORDPRESS post’s versus pages hierarchy thing, except post’s appear as a timeline and pages I can give nice titles to that I can remember but never appear on the timeline unless I create a POST like this, I’m sure it’s REALLY obvious to those that know, but to the naive who just want to write, the technology best’s me and is overruled by the desire to write and communicate !

Steve, it’s best to use Posts for time-limited subjects and Pages for enduring ones. Basically if you’re reporting on an event or giving your current thoughts on something, it’s supposed to be a Post. The sort of things that are better as Pages are contact details/how to find, a links page, a general ‘about’ page, index pages for major website subsections e.g. if a lot of the blog is on a particular project… all generally things that on a static (non-blog) website would get their own enduring page.
I think on most blog platforms that preceded WordPress there was no Page capacity. Blogging was a new website format that was essentially time-based; all entries were supposed to be in the form of updates that were identified by their time and date, and ordered accordingly. Including Pages in the mix is WordPress’s attempt to give users something familiar to them in ordinary websites, in case they wanted that while getting used to the blogging format.
It’s possible to turn a WP blog into an ‘ordinary’ website by only using Pages. But for people to be able to find them you need to activate the Pages column section which will show all the Page names as links. It makes more sense to limit Pages to those sorts of things I mentioned and to have any addition on a specific subject as Posts.
I think these things are explained in the WordPress help section. Also on this site you could probably do with adding more column panels besides Pages, and maybe think about the Theme? 🙂
