How to block access to USB MEMORY stick in WINDOWS

I found a great post by these guys about how to stop access to USB memory sticks in WINDOWS and tweeted about it as follows :-

Who Knew 🙂 – Locking out USB Drives To Protect Your Computers via@trigonIT

BUT then I went to look for the article to share it with someone and found that they had removed the article, appreciate there an IT support company that need to make an income from their skills and knowledge, so if this is the case, don’t post valued stuff in the public domain and then take it away.

Take’s alot for me to post here, but very frustrated by this scenario !

Anyway  the following, without the great original write up from TRIGON IT is how to disable USB access on windows .

Change HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor Start field to 4

Rename c:\windows\inf\usbstor.inf to c:\windows\inf\usbstor.inf.old

Rename c:\windows\inf\usbstor.pnf to c:\windows\inf\usbstor.inf.old

More info from MICROSOFT here, that hasn’t been removed
